The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites nominations and applications for the position of Director for the American Indian Studies Center (AISC). Qualifications include an outstanding scholarly research and publication record; experience developing interdisciplinary research and instructional programs in American Indian Studies and/or Indigenous Studies; the ability to administer budgetary and personnel processes; and proven experience in fundraising, including development activity as well as obtaining and managing extramural grants and/or contracts. Above all, we are looking for a dynamic individual to provide intellectual and programmatic leadership for the Center. This is a tenured appointment in the appropriate department or school. We welcome candidates whose experience in administration, research, teaching, and community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity and excellence.

Established in 1969 as one of the first ethnic studies centers in the United States, the AISC is an Organized Research Unit located within the Institute of American Cultures (IAC). Its mission is to promote research, education, and community service within an academic framework. The Center maintains a reference library and a publications unit, which publishes books and the American Indian Culture and Research Journal. The Center also provides academic support to students and administers fellowships and research awards for students and faculty through the IAC. During the past four decades, the Center has become nationally and internationally recognized as one of the leading research centers focused primarily on American Indian and Indigenous Studies.
