Postdoctoral/Visiting Scholar Fellowship in Ethnic Studies
Through a national competition, up to four postdoctoral fellowships are awarded each year to individuals who show great promise in academic research and scholarship in ethnic studies. IAC postdoctoral fellowships are awarded in conjunction with UCLA's four ethnic studies research centers. They support scholarship on African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans and Chicanas/os. The acceptance of a fellowship carries with it the commitment to make a contribution to the research activities of the sponsoring ethnic studies research center.
Those appointed as visiting scholars have completed their doctorate more than five years ago and hold tenure-track positions in academe. The fellowship includes a stipend (which can be used as a sabbatical supplement) that ranges from $27,000 to $32,000 contingent upon date of completion of the doctoral degree, $4,000 in research support, and health benefits. Generally, appointments are for a 9-month period beginning on September 1 or October 1.
Eligibility requirements: Individuals must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and hold a Ph.D. from an accredited college or university at the time of the appointment. UCLA faculty, staff, and students currently enrolled are not eligible to apply. Applications are available in September, due by December 31, and recipients are notified in early April.
Graduate and Predoctoral Fellowship in Ethnic Studies
Current UCLA students with a demonstrated interest in ethnic studies are eligible to apply for graduate/predoctoral fellowships to aid in completion of a thesis or dissertation. The fellowship consists of a $15,000 stipend and all in-state fees. Restrictions apply regarding acceptance of supplemental employment and/or other awards during the fellowship year. On occasion, Centers have chosen to divide the graduate fellowship between two or among three students.
