Critical Latinx Indigeneities NAISA Pre-Conference

Situating "Latina/o" within the hemispheric and historical circumstances of multiple imperial formations and colonial entanglements, the Critical Latinx Indigeneities precoference focuses on the experience of indigenous migrants from Latin America to the United States. Participants analyze how Zapotec, Mayan, Mixtec, Quechua, and other indigenous migrants—and second generation, US-born youth—conceive of belonging based on their own epistemologies as well as the political economies, social dynamics, and cultures of the places to which they migrate. NAISA conference attendees are invited to a behind the scenes tour of the Resources Center of the Autry, the future home of a 100,000-square-foot collections care, research, and education facility. This state-of-the-art facility will have the technology and equipment essential to properly care for, protect, and preserve the Autry’s important cultural assets, including more than 500,000 artifacts and library materials—among them those from the Southwest Museum of the American Indian and Braun Research Library Collections.
