Institute of American Cultures 2015-2016 Visiting Scholar/Researcher Fellowship Program in Ethnic Studies
The UCLA Institute of American Cultures (IAC), in cooperation with UCLA’s four Ethnic Studies Research Centers (American Indian Studies Center, Asian American Studies Center, Bunche Center for African American Studies, Chicano Studies Research Center) offers in-residence appointments to support research on African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, and Chicanas/os. We especially encourage applications that advance our understanding of new social and cultural realities occasioned by the dramatic population shifts of recent decades, including greater heterogeneity within ethnic groups and increased interethnic contact.
Two types of awards will be offered: Visiting Researcher appointments for persons who currently hold permanent academic positions and Visiting Scholar posts for newly degreed individuals. In 2015-2016, IAC Visiting Researchers/Scholars will receive funding for one or more quarters, with a maximum stipend of $35,000 for three quarters (contingent upon rank, experience, and date of completion of their terminal degree). In the event that an award is for less than three quarters the stipend will be prorated in accordance with the actual length of the award. For Visiting Researchers, these funds can be used to supplement sabbatical support for a total that does not exceed the candidate’s current institutional salary. Visiting Researchers will be paid through their home institutions and will be expected to continue their health benefits through that source as well; Visiting Scholars will received a stipend for living expenses and may be eligible for health benefits. Awardees may receive up to $4,000 in research support (through reimbursement of research expenses).Eligibility
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and hold a Ph.D. from an accredited college or university (or, in the case of the arts, an appropriate terminal degree) in a relevant field at the time of appointment. UCLA faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students are not eligible to apply.Deadline
Applications are available October 15, 2014 and must be received by 11:59 pm February 2, 2015. Applicants will be notified in April.Application Form
The first step in applying for IAC research support in ethnic studies is to contact the Ethnic Studies Research Center to which you are interested in applying. Due to budget constraints for the 2015-2016 academic year, the categories of awards actually offered will vary from Center to Center, so you are strongly encouraged to contact the Center’s IAC Coordinator first. Once you have discussed your project with the appropriate Center, please complete the application form.Link to Application Form: https://sa.ucla.edu/IAC/VisitingScholar
